Africa is an economically fast-growing continent with potentials in agricultural production and purification. Economic grown is less increasing especially in rural areas in that continent because of the lack of knowledge in how to improved cultivation methods, the limited access to agricultural machinery and especially the high costs of transportation on the farmers site and during the evacuation of the goods to the market (in literature also called: first-, last-mile problem). Therefore, green innovation centers for agricultural food production were set up in 14 countries in the Sub-Saharan Africa regions patronaged by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The goal of these centers is to improve the regional food supply by targeting the prementioned factors of influence.
The aCar Mobility Project integrates scientifically as part of the ONE WORLD – No Hunger initiative and aims to improve rural mobility significantly by new solutions of electric transport. From 2013 to 2018, an electric vehicle was developed and tested in the Ghana in cooperation with the KNUST University on the basis of local surveys and mobility data recorded on the side. Between 2017 and 2021 the local production potentials in rural Africa regions were analyzed to find best suitable methods that allows on site production of electric vehicles. Finally, the third generation of the aCar mobility project started from 2020 aims to identify mobility patterns and their different impact factors on rural transportation to derive regional requirements for electric mobility being operated the most efficient in our target regions of Ethiopia and Côte d’Ivoire. The project is conducted in cooperation with ASTU (Adama Science and Technology University) and INPHB (l’institut national polytechnique Houphouët-Boigny) with the aim to integrate on-site research partners equally.
